Nathaniel Hayward5:40 PM (39 minutes ago) to Membership Hello all, a few of the Muskegon and Holland members have been relaying info on ice conditions around the area and they go like this. Muskegon was checked yesterday and today a consensus is that the lake has 3.5 to 4” of black ice and light snow in spots, checked on the north side as well as the south side at fricanos . Bear lake in North Muskegon was checked today at 4 inches to 4.5” black ice with some drifts. Mona lake was checked on both sides and was not good with about 2.5 “ not safe! Lake Macatawa was checked yesterday at 2.5” not good ice. Gun lake was checked yesterday and today and was a beautiful 4”to 4.5 light 1/4” of light crusty snow. All in all it looks like gun is the best condition, it was checked in multiple spots and it was nice ice , wind conditions are variable hi winds tomorrow at the lake shore, but lighter inland by gun and gull a few of us are heading there in the morning to set up at the yankee springs state park and sail, we will keep you all posted on condition, hopefully we see you on the ice this weekend somewhere! Hope this helps.

Jim Fetters and myself plan to set up at Cottage Grove launch at the western end of Muskegon Lake Saturday morning. I checked Muskegon Lake Thursday and Friday and I'm confident the ice is safe and fast. There are a few shallow drifts but they don't seem likely to interfere with fun sailing. The temperature is forecast to warm up for the weekend and that will smooth the ride and make it more comfortable after Friday's cold snap. The sailing ought to hold up through Monday, where rain is forecast for the evening. Hope to see you out there.
